Where did colored contacts originate?

Colored contact lenses are becoming more and more popular nowadays and are
no longer limited to just theatrical use. There are basically three kinds of
colored contact lenses that are available in the market today and they are
categorized based on the amount of tint they contain visibility, enhancement
and opaque color tints. The purpose
of the visibility tint colored contacts is to provide better visibility to
the user and not to change eye color since the tint, either blue or green,
is very light. The opaque color tints are color contacts that are used primarily
to change eye color since they are processed with deeper tints using solid
color patterns. A cross between the two types is the enhancement tint
which, although having solid color tints, does not change eye color because
the tint is translucent. .

Colored
contact lenses are also available for those with astigmatism or those who
need bifocal corrective lenses aside from the regular cosmetic type which
have no corrective powers.
Because of the discovery of possible risks
of blindness and other eye injuries, the Food and Drug Administration has
regulated the use and issuance of colored contact lenses. You
now need a doctor’s prescription to purchase color contacts. It is also
not advisable to share contact lenses with others whether they are colored
or not because this may cause bacterial transmission.

Why would vampire contact lenses be more expensive than an ordinary colored contact lens?

There are several reasons why color contact lens is more expensive
than the regular contacts. Additional expenses for
color contacts come from added research done by manufacturing companies.
Aside from
sacrificing economies of scale because of lesser production quantities of
colored contact lenses, the tinting process is an added procedure during
production.

What color options do special effect colored contact lenses provide?

If you so decide that you want to change the way you look, changing your
eye color is a very dramatic way of doing it. Colored contact lenses are produced to
change eye color but manufacturers try to make it look as natural as
possible and allow you to still be able to see. This is done by only tinting the area where the iris is located
and the pupil area is kept clear for visibility. The way these contacts
are designed, however, poses certain disadvantages to your vision.
When you blink, for instance, there is a possibility that a portion of the
colored area may move toward your pupil causing portions of your vision to
become blocked or blurry. Depending on the varying light available, the
pupil sizes change specifically enlarging during nighttime while the clear
area allocated for pupils of these contacts remain constant. In situations such
as these, you might experience problems with your vision. Whatever the
situation, always consult your doctor before trying contacts.
