Three Feet From the Flag

though this will be short, do not underrate the information that it contains. As in life, golf isn’t necessarily about fashioning big changes, but little adjustments which can make all the difference. As in all things, there is a sequence, an order in which everything works best, and the Putt is one of those things that work much better if you follow that proper order/ sequence.

The first thing that needs to be done in the Putt sequence is to decide on your line, and this definitely needs to be done before the shot. When you are in the process of figuring your line, pay close attention to the area of the green within a three foot radius of the hole. At this point, most of the ball break will happen because the ball will be rolling slowly, and any change in the direction of your ball will be more exaggerated. You really need to figure out where your ball should be when it enters that “red zone” to use a football game term.

All you want/need to be thinking about during the stroke, is how hard to hit the ball, not where. You can determine how far the ball will go, by how far you bring back your putter during the back swing.

Once you hit the ball, the distance that the swing goes past the original ball striking position of your golf swing, should be equa-distant to the length of your back stroke.

You should think about putting the ball with just fair to middling power to hit the ball about one foot pass the whole if you were to miss. With your ball passing by the hole and remaining in “Gimmee ” territory, make sure you observe the break as it goes past the whole. This is crucial because it will give you the line you need for the “easy” tap in.

With the best golf clubs you will be playing like as if you are a pro. Though not of the same caliber, but you will not have any excuse about them having an edge because of good tools and accessories. A goodball putter, for example, would help you perfect your putting. It would be a good idea to choose among the differentPing putters sold today. With such a good brand, you will will be enjoying the highest quality. It is important to provide your equipment appropriate care though. It is not advised to have them scattered just anywhere. You should instead organize and protect them with quality club protectors. You should also always put them in club holders or in a club bag too.

You should also look at the part. Even if golf apparel may seem just for fashion, it’s important that you are comfortable every round. You should also arm yourself with quality sunglasses as protection for the eyes and to have a good view when the sun is blocking your vision. Of course, it’s already understood that you wear the best golf shoes to be on the go all the time. To protect your sight better, visor is also advised. It is also recommended to use a cap to provide protection to your whole head as well.

Of course, tees and a divot repair are also one of the basics. You should bring these two whenever you go for a round. As you know tees help keep the ball steady and secure before you make your first swing. The divot repair tool, on the other hand, helps fixing the chopped off surface of the greens. This is very important as it could affect your stroke and the travel of the ball.

The various accessories have been influenced by the new technology of today. Golf GPS is now available to help see the hole more clearly. This also provides an correct distance. With more gadgets to help you, golf is definitely becoming more fun and exciting.

What To Do When You’re In The Bunker

Golf professionals find getting out of the sand fairly easy,
and you will to when you have the right golf swing mechanics
in place. T he following step by step golf swing methods will
help give you the right mechanics to help, and with a little
practice will become a natural thing for you, and give you
the unfaltering base that you need to improve your bunker play.

Please note that the steps I’m giving you apply to normal
sand. For techniques in different sand, read my post “Bunker
Shot – How to Adjust Your Swing According to The Sand’s
Texture” published on October 10 2009.

1) Get more control of your club by choking down on it to the
point where your right index finger is just about one inch from the
bottom of the grip. This allows you not only to hit the shot,
but to feel it which is very important.

2) To aid in controlling your shot, narrow your stance from
your normal position, and make sure that the ball is forward
in it.

3) Get comfortable, and dig your feet down into the sand a
bit.

4) Do not twist your hips at all during your swing. make sure
your body stays still.

5) While starting your swing with your arms, make sure that
when you are at the top of your swing, that the butt of your
club points right at your ball (put a tee in the end of your
grip to help you see this). normally you want to
bring your club straight back. Not here, steeper is better.

6) At the top of your swing, your left arm should be straight,  and parallel to the ground.

7) When you start your down swing, remember to hit the sand one inch behind your ball. Remember focus
on that spot and not the ball. The ball will come out!

8) As the ball leaves the sand, remember that your arms and
body follow the ball.

9) The main lesson in all of this is the steep angle of your
down swing. But, you don’t want to be swinging too hard. You’re
just trying to out the ball, not kill it.

Try This Exercise

Take your Sand, Pitching, and Lob (if you have one) Wedges
with you into the bunker. Realize that you may be more
comfortable with something other than a Sand Wedge, and
therefore make better outs.

Hit a few shots with each of your clubs paying attention to
what happens, and pick out the best one for you. Keeping in
mind a steep downswing, and hitting the sand one inch behind
the ball.

Remember wherever you practice this, to keep in mind the steep
down swing, and that your grip is pointed down at the ball at
the top of your swing. Practice this for a few days, and you
will be pleasantly surprised at the advance in your game
