Springtime Salt Flats Fishing in the Yucatan Mexico

After being in the sun for 4-5 hours, it had been one  of the best lunches I have had in a while and Alfonso showed us the Mexican way of adding some hot sauce to the  sandwiches… it was excellent.  We moved closer to shore and once more commenced to stalk the next catch, it was hot and the fishing  seemed to slow a little in the afternoon heat, but Alfonso was unyielding and when he caught me sitting on the bow he demanded  that I stand up. “You can’t catch fish sitting down…stand up ready!”  I was up and about in an instant and was somewhat  embarrassed but that ended instantly after I hooked into an additional Permit, this one was somewhat smaller, probably 8 pounds but  the struggle lasted 10 minutes and the thrill was definitely not gone.

We stalked a few more small groups of Bone Fish and Permit pairs, landing a few more average sized Bone Fish before  moving on once again.  This occasion, as we came across the new spot, Alfonso informed us that this was a large channel and one  of the deeper areas of the lagoon.  Still only 12 to 15 feet deep but we changed up the tackle and went to a large jig with  a heavy leader.  I am guessing about 20 to 25 pound test.

This is where things got fantastically interesting.  We must have hit that channel as a school of baitfish were passing through or  had just passed since it was a feeding frenzy!   The opening casts for both my father and I produced two large Snook in the  20 pound range, pretty good fights for both, but pound for pound I believe the Permit is tough to beat.   Anyway, as things  got peculiar, and cast after cast fashioned larger and larger Snook, I started thinking about the mysterious“Super Slam”; Bone  Fish, Permit, Snook and Tarpon.  I would have been thrilled to possess such an incredible day and fall short but then as if on queue  an additional big strike and from the water it arrived, the Tarpon ran beyond the boat at full speed then prepared a run back by means of  another spectacular leap.  While it had been relatively undersized for Tarpon at about 10 pounds, it was the icing on an ideal day  of fishing.

We stayed on the channel another 20 minutes or so and I was so worn-out and absolutely pleased that I handed my rod to  Alfonso and watched him catch a few more Snook while my Dad did likewise and brought in a few more Bone Fish good  measure.

All in all, I have got to say that this was the best day of fishing EVER.  Between the company, the Boca Paila Fishing Lodge  services and the amazing variety of fish we caught, this one is going to be tough to beat.  I would like to once more personally thank  the staff at Boca Paila for this wonderful experience we are going to both never forget!

Their study included a high-fat diet group to develop obesity. Six weeks into the study, mice were divided up either into a sedentary group, an exercise group, a low-fat diet group, or a group that participated in both exercise and the low-fat diet. The study was divided into 6- and 12-week increments so the scientists could examine both the short- and long-term effects of the interventions.

Interestingly, the results achieved by the combination exercise/diet group were not significantly better than those of the diet or exercise groups by themselves.

Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that the only truly significant increase in belly fat in the mice from 6 to 12 weeks was seen in the sedentary mice. “The lower CRP levels were partially mediated by the reduction in torso fat,” she explained.

Europa League Quarter Finals previews Atletico Madrid – Valencia, Benfica – Liverpool, Fulham – VfL Wolfsburg and Hamburger SV- Standard Liege

Europa League Quarter Finals Thursday April 1st, 2010 Kick-off time 21.05 h – The Quarter Finals of this years edition of the Europa League seem to prove the competition is a legitimate addition to the Big Ballroom Dance of the Champions League. Games as Benfica-Liverpool, Atletico Madrid-Valencia and Hamburger SV-Standard Liege all see either former European heavyweights pitched against each other, or teams with an attraction factor high enough to want to turn your TV on.

The big game of the night is no doubt Benfica (two times European Champions and many times losing finalist) versus Rafael Benitez´ Liverpool (four times European Champions, twice winner of the UEFA-Cup). In Spain all eyes will be set on the national confrontation between the current number three of he Liga, Valencia, and Atletico Madrid, having a disappointing season but with formidable players like Forlan, Agüero and Simao in their squad. Valencia edged past what was seen as one of the most dangerous squads in the competition, Werder Bremen in the round of sixteen. After a 1-1 draw in Mestalla, all hell broke loose in Bremen in a game that ultimately ended in 4-4, but saw Valencia take a 3-1 lead, Werder equalizing in the 62nd minute, but Valencia ultimately ´victorious´ on away goals.

HSV-Standard is another attractive line-up between the former European Champions and Cup Winners Cup Champions from Hamburg (1983 and 1977 respectively) and Standard Liege, runners-up in the Cup winners Cup in 1982, losing a final played in and against Barcelona. Both teams are exponents of countries that have been improving their results in Europe the last few years, after a decade of falling ever further behind teams from either Big Money or Dirty Money Countries. Hamburg will be especially keen on reaching the final, as it will be played on their hometurf.

Wolfsburg, the surprise German Champions last season, will have to tackle Fulham, that routed Italian powerhouse Juventus 4-1 at home after losing 3-1 in Turin and falling 1-0 behind in the return game.

In order to reach the coveted final the winner of HSV-Standard will have to knock out the winner of the VfL Wolfsburg – Fulham encounter. Liverpool/Benfica takes on Valencia/Atletico Madrid, making the latter look the slightly stronger bracket.
