Are Golf Shoes Required?

For every sport there is a special shoe that helps to play the game better. But many new golfers do not wish to spend the extra money when they are just beginning and don’t know if they will take the game seriously or not. So, you ask the question , “Are golf shoes really required?” Recently, changes have taken place that alter the necessity for golf shoes. They are now not really required.

In the beginning , golf shoes had straight steel spikes fastened to the shoe’s sole in a threaded metal insert. The steel spikes were great for the shots that required a hefty powerful swing. They would help you to keep your feet fastened to the ground without slipping . However, the downside was that they left a lot of marks on the greens. The later in the day that you played, the more the greens were damaged and putting got more uncertain. Then, the greens had to be rolled with a heavy roller before the next days play.

Then, recently, plastic spikes came along that are much damaging to the greens. Golf course managers were in favor of the new “soft” spikes because they made their job easier. Now, it is acceptable to play most courses with tennis shoes that do not have spikes, but you should check with the pro shop before doing so.

It can be difficult for a beginner to justify the additional cost of golf shoes, because they can be very expensive. Even though the design has changed , the shoes have not gotten cheaper. It might be better to wait until you know if you’re going to be a serious golfer, and if you’re going to be such a powerful swinger that you need extra traction .

When you finally decide to purchase golf shoes, take the time to shop around at your local stores and online suppliers of discount golf clubs. There are hundreds of shoes to choose from at golf equipment suppliers, and finding a pair that is right for you can take a while. Consider comfort first because you will be wearing them for up to 5 hours during your round. The style and color will be easier to choose because you know what you like. Do a trial fitting for every shoe you like, just as you would if buying street shoes. Choosing the right shoes can make you more comfortable while playing and, hopefully, improve your game   .

3 Putting Tips For Beginners

As you can suppose, one of the most important things that you can do to improve your golf game is improve your putting skills.  While it may seem impossible, only practicing and working to improve a few minor things will greatly improve your skills.  Once you have learned what you need to do, practice the skills until you have them mastered.  Remember, a good putting skill will ultimately translate into a much improved long shot as well so taking the time to practice your putting is very important.

You are of course going to need to practice to improve, but the exact skills that you need to practice tend to vary from player to player.  As a general rule of thumb, there are trio things that you need to specifically focus on in order to get the best golf game possible.  The first skill is ensuring that your swing is proper so that you will get hold of the ball exactly in the core of the club head.  If you are not dead on the center you will never be able to master putting.  You simply cannot hit the ball from the side of the club head and expect it to go straight.  No matter how long you practice, this is not possible and will result in plenty of frustration over what you are doing wrong.

Edit this text always hit the ball in a straight line to the target.  This means if the ball needs to go 2 feet away from you towards the lake, you would not want to aim the ball towards the tree beside it.  You may think this sounds a bit strange, but many people do not squarely approach the ball to the target.  They then stand around and wonder why they are missing their shot.  Even if you are off by just a fraction, this can seriously alter your putting skills because the ball is not going to go where you want it to go.  

You will likely need to practice this point a lot, most people do not realize when they are just slightly off center from the target.  Yet even the slightest difference away from the target will result in a missed shot and an increased handicap.  Work on this by ensuring that you take plenty of time to practice.  This is even a skill that you could practice in your office, or bedroom at home using a small home putting kit.  However, going to the driving range is not going to help you here so avoid them if possible while you are working on this skill.

Your last skill that you need to work on to improve your putting skills is working to ensure that you are accelerating the club head when you are actually coming into contact with the ball.  Many players make the mistake of deceleration the club down right before they actually hit the ball.  This will cause you to lose the momentum that you need in order for the ball to make it to your target.  Working to make a conscious effort not to slow the club down will usually be sufficient in order to improve this skill and give you some improved results.

A Simple Way to Fix a Slice

In this  fantastic  world of golf, many golfers have a fade that they really want to remedy  . But there are ways you can fix  a slice, and how to correct a slice is actually what we will talk about in this article here. We have put together a method that includes just a few steps and you can work on it next time you go to the driving range.

First of all you should know that there are several parts of the swing that can drive you to slice your shots. Some of them are: swinging too fast, letting your palm off of the grip in the backswing, swinging off plane, taking the club away too rapidly, and not fully rotating your wrists through the ball.

In this perticular article we will talk about  ”swinging to far outside” which is the most common, without a  doubt, fault and reason for the slice. Here is what you need to do to remedy  a slice.

1. Go to the driving range .
2. While hitting, you put an extra golf ball about 12 inches behind the ball your hitting and 1 inch closer to you. As you swing, try and knock that ball out of the way.
3. Get a pool noodle and put an old shaft through it. Then set it up so that it is behind you but crosses your neck. Then as you swing try to not hit the noodle. If you do, its okay it won’t damage your club.

Practice those and practice them often and you should be on your way to be hitting straighter, longer, and more happy with your swing.

Can You Hit A Perfect Golf Shot Everytime?

I am sure there is no such thing as the perfect golf swing.  You only have to look  at Tiger Woods, if we all tried to copy his swing a lot of us could end up with damaged backs !  Everybody has limits to their abilities and must alter their swing to match their own capabilities .  Having said that the mechanics of the golf swing can be broken down into sections and you can practice these elements to improve your golf swing .

The Setup
This is the key to a perfect golf shot.  By getting the setup right you will constantly come back to the impact point with power and control. If you currently think your set up may be the cause of your bad shots , the good news is that this is probably the simpelist part of your swing to correct .  Your feet should be about shoulder width apart, this can alter depending on the length of the club you are using .  But remember that a too wide stance will limit your ability to turn and too narrow will result in loss of balance .  Remember when you address the ball to keep your back straight.  It is vital that your spine is straight throughout your swing as this is your turning axle. Always bend from the hips when grounding your club behind the ball.

The Backswing
It is important to try and keep your left arm straight  (right handed players) during your backswing, but not taught – it is not a good idea to have any tension in your body as it can ruin your timing. Take the club back as far as you can go , if you can only manage a half backswing that is perfectly OK  . Try not to rush, a slower tempo is usually far more effective.

The Downswing
It is very importantwith the downswing not to try and force power into the striking of the ball .  It should be a very smooth controlled action  .  A rushed downswing will ultimately  result in badly hit  shots.  Also one common mistake is to only use your arms and wrists to impact the ball, you should always use  your whole body, it will give you more power and consistancy  .

Impact
It is crucial that you swing through the ball on impact do not swing at it. If you watch you will see that good players alwaysallow their hands to lead the clubhead through impact, where as poor players allow the clubhead to pass their front arm before impact.

Follow Through
Your swing does not end once the ball has left the tee  – it is crucial that you complete your swing  .  It is a fact that over 80% of amateurs have very little follow through  in their golf swing. It is such a overlooked  part of the golf swing, just a little attention to this will see great improvements .

So next time you are at  the practice range take a look at  these different areas of your swing to see where you can make improvements. It is good practice  to have golf swing drills that you work through at the range, but remember that when you take your swing onto the golf course it is not advisable  to have mechanical swing thoughts or swing thoughts that apply  to just one element of your swing.  Once you are on the course your primary focus must be your target. Get a picture in your mind of  the shot you are going to make and simply trust  your swing.

2 Strange Ways To Get Better At Golf

Golf is a hugely popular sport at the moment, and to someone who hasn’t played it before then it can look deceptively easy, but anyone who has played knows that is not the case. The popularity of Tiger Woods has certainly given the game a boost in popularity over the recent years, but I also think it is popular because it is a relaxing game both to watch and to play.

With sports like basketball, football and baseball then you have to get stuck into a full game with lots of people and lots of running around, with golf then you can just go out by yourself or with a couple of close friends and have a relaxing but enjoyable round. Yet as with any sport then if you want to win then you need to put in the effort to master it, here are 2 unconventional ways to improve your golf score:

Meditation:

If you want to play golf well then it does require a lot of mental discipline. You need to be able to ignore anybody talking around you or any noises from outside of the course (traffic noise etc) and probably taunts coming from your golf buddies as they try to put you off your shot too! You need to keep your body relaxed so that tight muscles don’t ruin your swing, you need to focus on the ball to make sure your swing connects with it correctly, all while under pressure to get the shot right.

Now for some people then this is easy and they don’t even think about it, but for the rest of us then we are stressed out from work and we need a little help to calm ourselves in the moment and to help us focus. Meditation is a great way to learn how to focus and relax, you can actually learn it easily from a book, but it will take a few tries before you can actually get your mind to settle down. Once you have learnt it though then you will probably find it really enjoyable, and you will be a lot calmer and more focused throughout your day. Then when you go to take a shot on the course you can use the same techniques to calm yourself and focus.

Work your core:

I said earlier that golf is not too strenuous, but it does take a toll on your core body muscles even if you are not running around all the time like in some sports.

We actually use our core muscles for almost everything, from sitting down, to walking, to swinging that golf club, yet most of us never really work on this area of our body. I am not just talking about doing thousands of situps either, I mean working the whole area, so your lower back, the muscles alongside your main ab muscle and all the rest so you have a strong core that can support your spine, protect your organs, and help you put more power into your swing. So take some time to look up some exercises for your core muscles and slowly start to work on them, then in a few weeks time you can show off your more powerful swing when you are down the course!
